Description:
Trees to 15-40 m high; bark dark grey, fissured; branchlets glabrous with prominent leaf-scars. Leaves alternate, crowded towards the apices of branches, 10-30 x 6-14 cm,cuneate-obovate to spathulate or subpanduriform, cuneate-attennuate at base (decurrent into petioles), rounded or apiculate or sometimes subtruncate at apex, thinly to stiffly coriaceous, glabrous, glossy; lateral nerves 6-15 pairs, faint above, prominent beneath, ascending, arcuate towards margins and joining the superadjacents forming loops; tertiary nerves immersed or somewhat prominent above, distinct beneath, laxly reticulate or often scalariform; petioles 3-15 mm long, 1-2.5 mm thick, glabrous, sulcate; glands obsolete or occasionally somewhat prominent. Spikes axillary, simple, 15-20 cm long, glabrous. Calyx tube 3-4 x 1.2-1.5 mm, glabrous; expanded portion cupular, 3-4 x 4.5-5 mm; teeth ovate, 1.5-2 x 1-1.3 mm, acute, glabrous. Petals absent. Stamens 3.5-4 mm long; anthers oblong, ca 1 mm long. Style 4-5 mm long. Fruits ellipsoid to oblong-ellipsoid, 3.5-6 x 1.8-3 cm, not or slightly compressed, inflated, obscurely 5-angled, shortly beaked at apex, glabrous.
