Description:
Slender subshrubs, to 60 cm high, soft-glandular-hairy; stems quadrangular with acute angles, hirsute. Leaves opposite, unequal, ca 8 x 4 cm, ovate-elliptic to lanceolate, acute, attenuate or cuneate at base, subentire or minutely repand or wavy at margin, acute or acuminate at apex, lineolate above, more hairy and less glandular beneath; petioles ca 4 cm long, hairy. Inflorescence dense spikes; peduncles flattened, variable in length, 2-4 cm long, white-hairy or fulvous-glandular-hairy; bracts leafy, ovate-elliptic, acute, ca 2 x 0.5 cm, rosulate, faintly reflexed, lineolate, glandular-hairy; bracteoles linear-lanceolate, ca 5 mm long, ciliate at margin, red-punctate, hairy above. Calyx usually deeply 5-lobed; lobes subequal, lanceolate, acute, ca 5 mm long, ciliate at margin. Corolla infundibuliform, white; tube insignificant, ca 3 mm long; upper part ventricose, ca 1.1 cm, pubescent outside and with a tuft of white hairs above anthers inside, 5-lobed; lobes equal, ca 3 x 5 mm. Stamens 4, all fertile; filaments united into a sheath adhering to corolla tube, nearly glabrous; longer filaments ca 4 mm long; short ones ca 2 mm long; anthers oblong, muticose. Ovary ca 3 mm long, on a disk of ca 0.5 mm long, 2-loculed with 2 ovules in each; style linear, ca 1 cm long, glabrous. Capsules oblong-ellipsoid, ca 1.5 cm long, thin-walled, glandular-hairy; seeds 4 on retinaculae, complanate, slightly shallow on one side, ca 5 x 4 mm, glabrous, encircled by a membrane, ex-areolate.
