Description:
Much branched shrubs, to 2 m high; stems terete, glabrous. Leaves opposite, ca 20 x 5 cm, equal, elliptic-lanceolate, attenuate or tapering at base and decurrent into the petiole, sparingly toothed or entire at margin, acuminate at apex, lineolate, glabrous and dark green above, pale steel grey beneath; petioles winged, auriculate; lateral nerves 6-10 pairs. Inflorescence simple or compound spikes, interrupted, to 10 cm long, strong-smelling; peduncles tetragonal, multicellular-glandular-hairy; bracts ovate-lanceolate, subacute at apex, ca 1.5 cm long, glandular-hairy; bracteole oblanceolate, ca 7 mm long, glandular-hairy. Calyx divided about base, ca 8 mm long; tube very small, ca 2 mm long, glabrous; lobes unequal, one longer; other 4 in 2 pairs, equal, obtuse or acute at apex, glandular-hairy. Corolla funnel shaped, ca 4 cm long, glabrous outside, sparsely hairy inside, blue to light violet; tube shorter, less than 1 cm long; lobes ovate, obtuse. Stamens 4, in unrqual heights, included; staminal sheath truncate, extending to 1/3 of ventricose portion, glabrous; longer filaments arising slightly below staminal sheath, ca 1 cm long, hairy from base; short ones ca 3 mm long, arising from top of staminal sheath, glabrous. Ovary on a prominent disc, glandular-hairy above; style ca 1 cm long, enclosed in a sinus, glabrous, stigmatic portion slightly bulged. Capsules obovoid, ca 8 mm long , acute at apex ,glabrous; seeds 2, ovoid, ca 4 mm across, slightly bulged, elastically hairy when wet; areole at base small, semicircular, glabrous.
