Description:
Shrubs, about 1 m high, nearly glabrous; branches erect, quadrangular. Leaves opposite, subequal, ovate or elliptic, ca 14 x 8 cm, narrowed or cuneate at base, serrate or rarely crenate at margin, acuminate at apex, chartaceous, densely lineolate, glabrous; lateral nerves ca 7 pairs, arcuate, more prominent above; petioles variable, 0.5-6 cm long; leaves at end of branches, sessile. Flowers in large lax open panicles, often much branched, capillary, glabrous, ca 30 cm long, peduncles usually slender, sometimes dense with stouter and shorter branches, sulcate; bracts 2, dissimilar, light green, one orbicular- elliptic, ca 4 mm long, the other linear-obovate, ca 4 mm, glabrous, caducous in bud stage, before flowers bloom, lineolate. Calyx deeply 5-lobed, ca 8 mm long; lobes equal or subequal with a midvein, lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, obtuse or emarginated at apex, chartaceous-membranous, lineolate, glabrous. Corolla tubular-ventricose, ca 3.5 cm long, pale purple or light violet, glabrous outside, hairy inside; tube 1 cm, gradually widening in to ca 2.5 cm long ventricose portion; lobes triangular or ovate, acute, ca 5 mm long. Stamens 4, didynamous, connate at base, included; staminal sheath extending to 2/3 of ventricose portion, pubescent at margin; filaments free above, longer ones ca 5 mm long, glabrous; shorter ones ca 2 mm long, glabrous; anther lobes small, dorsifixed. Ovary on a small disc; style slightly exserted, slightly broadened at apex, finely pubescent. Capsules oblong, ca 1.2 cm long, acute, exserted, glabrous; seeds 4, ovate, ca 2 mm, complanate, pubescent, concave with a minute areole.
