Description:
Subshrubby. Leaves ovate, to 8 x 5 cm, base cuneate, margin serrate, apex acuminate, glandular-punctate below; petiole to 4 cm. Racemes terminal, to 16 cm; verticillasters to 6-flowered; peduncles puberulous; pedicels to 4 mm; bracts ovate-lanceolate, to 1 x 0.5 cm, scarlet. Calyx broadly tubular, to 1.5 cm; tube 8-nerved; lobes ovate-acute. Corolla scarlet; tube 3 cm, compressed; upper lip erect, 1.3 cm, 2-fid at apex; lower lip shorter, 3-lobed. Stamens 2, exserted; filaments 5 mm.
