Description:
Herbs with several main stems prostrate to ascending from a strong tap-root, branched stems angled, angles sparsely and minutely scabridulous. Leaves in whorls or pseudo-whorls of 4-6 or more, thin, to 3 cm long, lanceolate to spathulate, acute or slightly rounded at apex, contracted gradually to a slight petiole at base, margins subentire, venation pinnate but obscure. Flowers in conspicuous stiff racemoid, to 5 cm long cymes, branches frequently conspicuously zig-zag; pedicels 1-3 mm long, very slender; flower buds globose. Sepals 5, suborbicular, concave, imbricate, greenish-white with white hyaline margins, accrescent to about 4 mm, when mature and enclosing the fruit. Petals 0. Stamens 5, shorter than the sepals. Ovary trilocular, plancetation axile; ovules many, styles 3, very short. Capsule globose, thin walled, dehiscence loculicidal; seeds orbicular, bright chestnut, hilum prominent, surface glossy, tessellate-reticulate.
