Description:
Large scandent or subscandent shrubs with thorns on the trunk; branchlets stellate-pubescent. Leaves 4.5-10 x 4-8.7 cm, ovate or ovate-deltoid, base subcordate or truncate, margins entire or somewhat sinuate-toothed, apex obtuse, acute or acuminate, glabrescent above, densely stellate-pubescent and closely covered with small glands beneath, basally 3-ribbed; petiole 2.5-6 cm long. Male flowers in terminal panicled racemes; tepals 3-5, c. 3 mm long, suborbicular or lanceolate, concave, tomentose, glandular within; stamens many. Female flowers green, in simple racemes; tepals linear, caducous; ovary 2-lobed, tomentose, 2-celled; stigma plumose. Capsule 1-1.2 cm across, 2-valved, densely fulvous-tomentose and glandular without. Seeds subglobose, black.
