Description:
Perennials, culms to 60 cm high, stout. Leaves several, 50-80 x 1 cm, 3-costate. Panicles pyramidal; bracts to 30 cm long; bracteoles filiform, scabrid. Spikelets 4-5 x 0.8 cm; male portion 1 cm long; pistillate glumes 3.5 x 1.5 mm, deep red; utricle 3-4 mm long, beak 2-cleft, stigmas 3, scabrid. Nut 3 x 1.5 mm, dark brown; staminate glumes 4-4.5 mm long, many-nerved; stamens 3.
