Description:
Slender clustering rattans, climbing to a height of 10-15 m; stem diameter with sheath 1-2 cm, without sheath to 1 cm. Leaf-sheath green, armed with spines; spines solitary, horizontal or slightly deflexed, yellowish, 8-10 mm long, knee present; ochrea short, deciduous. Leaves 1-1.5 m long; petiole, if present, 2-3 cm long; leaflets ca 40 x 2 cm, regular, adaxilally without spines along the midvein or spinulose at the apex, ciliate beneath, middle-upwards, the margin spinulose. Inflorescence flagellate; male inflorescence ca 3 m long, partial inflorescence 20-30 cm long; rachilla ca 3 cm long; female inflorescence ca 3 m long, partial inflorescence ca 70 cm long; rachillae 5-10 on each side, terminating in a filiform, caudate appendix ca 8 cm long; fruiting perianth not pedicellate. Fruit very broadly ovoid, 11 mm long and 7-8 mm broad; scales in 21 vertical rows, not or very faintly channeled, straw yellow, violet when ripe, endosperm entire.
