Description:
Perennial herbs; rhizome creeping. Leaves alternate, lanceolate, to 8 cm, attenuate to a twisted petiole. Umbels c. 5-rayed, with 3 flowers per ray. Perianth 3 + 3, free, clawed, orange, yellow, pink or red. Outer tepals ovate, 4.5 cm, obtuse; inner ones narrower and longer, acute, spotted towards apex. Stamens 6, attached to base of tepals, declinate. Ovary inferior, 3-celled, ovules numerous; style slender, pointing downwards; stigma 3-fid. Capsule loculicidal; seeds numerous.
