  Description: Trees, to 18 m high, bark light reddish brown, cracked, shallowly and vertically fissured; exudation milky; young parts ferruginous pubescent, old branches with stout thorns. Leaves simple, alternate, estipulate; petiole 5-10 mm, slender, pubescent; lamina 4-8 x 1.5-3.5 cm, elliptic, elliptic-obovate or obovate; base attenuate, apex obtusely acute, margin entire, woolly beneath when young, glabrous when mature, coriaceous; lateral nerves 10-12 pairs, pinnate, slender; intercostae reticulate. Flowers bisexual, white or yellowish white, fragrant, fascicled at leafless nodes; pedicel 4-5 mm, tomentose; sepals 3+3, 6 x 3 mm, ovate, acute, hairy, inner smaller; corolla lobes 5-6, 10 mm long, campanulate, tube globose, throat densely hairy, lobes lanceolate; stamens 6, filaments linear, anthers ovate or lanceolate, extrorse, filaments hairy at base; staminodes 4, filiform, hairy with broad base; ovary 5 celled, superior, densely hairy, conical, ovules on axile placentae; style 10 mm long, cylindric; stigma small. Fruit a berry, 2.5 x 1.5 cm, ovoid, green, apiculate; seeds ellipsoid, shining, brown.
