  Description: Trees 7-12 m tall. Leaves opposite, 7-11 x 3-5.5 cm, elliptic, obtusely acute at apex, rounded at base; intramarginal nerves double, inconspicuous. Flowers 2-3.2 cm across, pedicelled, white in terminal panicled cymes. Calyx with a staminal disc, tube thick, subcylindric, 1.2 cm long; lobes rounded, persistent. Petals 4, inserted on the top of the mouth of the calyx, broad, concave, obtuse, falling singly. Stamens very numerous, free, longer than the petals, bent inwards in the middle regularly when in bud, later unfolding. Ovary 2-celled, many-ovuled; style slender; stigma slightly acute. Fruit a 1 or 2 seeded fleshy berry, crowned by the calyx-limb and thickened disk; seeds large, angled; cotyledons thick, fleshy; radicle small, concealed between the cotyledons.
