Description:
Climbers. Leaves opposite, up to 12 x 3.5 cm long, narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, cuneate at base, coriaceous, triple-ribbed, and transverse nerves many. Flowers ca. 3.2 cm long, in axillary congested cymes up to 5 cm long; bracts and bracteoles small. Calyx 5 or 4- lobed. Corolla-tube and lobes about equal in length, the lobes with a line of erect hairs within. Stamens 5 or 4 adnate to the corolla-tube; filaments short; anthers bearded at the base. Ovary and style glabrous. Fruit a berry, globose, indehiscent, with a hardened pericarp; seeds many.
