Description:
Spreading tree; branched from base; branchlets covered with scurfy indumentum and brown scales. Leaves simple, oblong to elliptic, to 50 x 16 cm, subcoriaceous, base rounded, margin serrate and sharply serrulate, acuminate, rusty below, crowded at apices of branchlets; petiole to 8 cm. Panicles cymose, to 35 cm, axillary; peduncles reddish-brown, tomentose; pedicels to 2 cm; bracteoles elliptic-acute, deciduous. Flowers bisexual. Sepals 5, ovate, to 0.8 cm, imbricate, yellowish, margins pink. Petals 5, pink, broadly urceolate, 1 x 1.5 cm, basally connate; lobes reflexed. Stamens numerous; filaments stout, to 5 mm, bent over the ovary; anthers 2-celled, dehiscence apical porous. Ovary globose, 5-celled; ovules many, axile; styles 5, spreading, basally connate.
