Description:
Extensive climber; branchlets densely soft-tomentose, slightly angled. Leaves cordate-ovate in outline, to 14 x 18 cm, coriaceous, sharply serrate, soft pubescent above and tomentose below, deeply 3-lobed; lobes ovate-lanceolate, to 8 x 5 cm; petiole to 2 cm, with 6-8 glands towards the upper half; stipules auriculate-acuminate, to 8 mm, caducous; tendrils axillary, to 15 cm. Flower solitary, axillary, to 9 cm wide, pendulous; pedicel to 5 cm; bracts foliaceous, ovate, 2.5 x 2 cm, basally united. Hypanthium to 8 x 1 cm, swollen below, pubescent. Sepals 5, oblong-lanceolate, 6 x 2 cm, pinkish. Petals 5, oblong-lanceolate, to 6 x 2 cm, rose, with just 1 row of purplish tubercles, 2 x 2 mm (corona) at the mouth of hypanthium. Staminal column 9.5 cm; filaments 5, free, to 2 cm. Ovary pubescent, on a gynophore 9.5 cm; styles 3, each 1.5 cm. Berry oblong-ovoid, to 9 x 3 cm, softly tomentose outside, from a stalk 10 cm long; seeds numerous, ovate, 6 x 5 mm.
