  Description: Large shrubs, distally branching. Leaves spirally arranged, linear-attenuate, 150-210 x 3-5(5.5) cm, prickly on margins and dorsal mid-rib, the prickles greenish to brownish. Female head oblong-ovoid, 20-24 cm long, composed of numerous simple drupes. Drupes 36-40 x 8-10 mm, style c. 5 mm long, conic, simple or (rarely) forked with short horns; pileus pyramidal, about 5 mm high; endocarp central, c. 15 mm long; apical mesocarp c. 12-15 mm long; basal mesocarp c. 4 mm long. Male inflorescence spicate, lower bracts with spinulose flagelliform tips. Spike c. 7.5 x 2.2 cm. Male phalange with column 3-6 mm long, rachis 2-3 mm long, stamens c. 17-29 together, filaments 0.5-1 mm long, anthers 2.5-3.5 mm long, 0.5 mm wide; apiculus 0.3-0.6 mm long.
