Description:
Trees, to 25 m high, bark greyish-brown; blaze pink red; exudation milky; branchlets sympodial, terete, ferrugenous tomentose when young. Leaves alternate, subopposite or in indistinct whorls, estipulate; petiole 6-20 mm long, stout, tomentose; lamina 9.5-17. 5 x 3-8 cm, lanceolate, obovate, oblanceolate or obovate-elliptic, base cuneate, apex obtuse, acute, obtusely acuminate to subcuspidate, margin entire, glabrous above, puberulous beneath, coriaceous; lateral nerves 8-12 pairs, pinnate, slender, raised beneath; intercostae reticulate. Flowers bisexual, yellowish, in solitary or in few flowered axillary clusters; pedicels 2.5-4 cm long, pubescent, brown; calyx lobes 6 in 2 series; corolla campanulate, 5 mm long, lobes 6; stamens 12, attached to the base of corolla, extrorse; anthers acute, connective produced; ovary villous, 6-celled, superior, style subulate. Fruit a berry 3.5 x 1.7 cm, glabrous, fleshy, ellipsoid, beaked; seed one.
