Description:
Deciduous tree; branchlets glabrescent. Leaves broad-ovate, 5-9 x 3-6 cm, coriaceous, coarsely serrate, tomentose below; petiole to 4 cm. Racemes simple, terminal on short shoots. Flowers to 4 cm wide, appearing with foliage; pedicels tomentose. Calyx-tube urceolate, 6 x 4 mm, tomentose; lobes 5, broadly ovate. Petals 5, ovate, 1 x 0.8 cm, pinkish, clawed. Stamens numerous; filaments 8 mm long. Ovary inferior, 5-celled, adnate to calyx-tube; ovules 2, basal; styles 2-5, united below. Pome to 8 cm wide, sessile.
