Description:
Shrubs about 2 m high; branchlets slender, pubescent. Leaves opposite, 7-21 x 1.5-3.5 cm, narrowly elliptic or lanceolate, acuminate at apex, cuneate at base, thinly coriaceous, glabrous above, pubescent on midrib, nerves and nervules beneath, blackish green or chocolate when dry; midrib channelled above; lateral nerves 7-9 pairs, sub-opposite, subparallel, arcuate, slender, slightly raised above; nervules parallel; petioles 4-10 mm long, slender, pubescent; stipules 1-2 x 2-3 mm, triangular or ovate-acuminate at apex, pubescent above. Inflorescence sessile, 1-6 flowered; bracteoles absent. Flowers sessile, 6-7 mm long. Hypanthium ± 1 mm long, obovoid, glabrous or puberulous; calyx tube 1 x 1.5-2 mm, cupular, glabrous above; lobes 4, persistent, ovate, acute, puberulous at margin. Corolla tube 4-4.5 mm long, pubescent at upper part on both sides; lobes 4, ± 1.5 mm long, elliptic-lanceolate, pubescent. Stamens 4, included; filaments ± 0.5 mm long, adnate below throat; anthers ± 0.5 mm long, narrow-oblong. Ovary ± 0.5 mm, obovoid, 4-loculed; style ± 2.5 mm long, thin, wider, pubescent above; lobes 4, less than 0.5 mm long, narrow-oblong; disk ± 1 mm across, flat, smooth. Fruit sessile, ± 5 x 4 mm, crowned with calyx lobes; pericarp thin, glabrous; mesocarp thin; pyrenes 4, dorsally convex, 1-striped, wrinkled, ventrally angled, acute at apex, acuminate at base, wall thick, with raphides; seeds 3-4 mm long, flat or semiterete, short stalked at base.
