  Description: Annuals. Culms 10-45 cm long, floating; nodes bearded. Leaves 2.5-7.5 x 0.6-2 cm, ovate-oblong or lanceolate, base cordate, apex acute or obtuse, glaucous beneath; sheaths to 6 cm long, expanded, spongy, forming floats. Panicles 3.5-6 cm long, lax; pedicels with a red band below the middle. Spikelets 6-8 mm long, lanceolate, 1-flowered. Glumes wanting. Lemma 6-8 x 1-3 mm, lanceolate, acuminate, chartaceous, awned; awns 0.7-1.2 cm long, scabrid. Palea 6-8 x 1-2 mm, elliptic-lanceolate, keels scabrid or ciliate. Stamens 6. Grain oblong.
