  Description: Shrubs, 2-3 m high; stems woody; ends of branches pendulous, glabrous. Leaves alternate, ovate or elliptic, truncate or cuneate at base, serrate at margin, acute at apex, 2-8 x 1-4 cm, 3-5 nerved at base, glabrous; nectary inconspicuous; petioles ca 2 cm long, glabrous; stipules subulate, minute, caducous. Flowers axillary, solitary, and pendulous; pedicels 5-7 cm long, jointed in middle, minutely ciliate. Epicalyx lobes 6 or 7, subulate, 1-2 mm long, glabrous or minutely ciliate. Calyx tubular, spathaceous, 2-4 lobed at tip, ca 1.6 mm long, minutely ciliate outside, glabrous inside. Corolla 5-6 cm across, red with pink streaks; petals 4-7 cm long, deeply laciniate into many linear-oblong reflexed segments. Staminal column twice as long as petals, broader above, antheriferous in upper 1/3-1/4. Ovary pyriform, minutely hairy; style 1-1.3 cm long; stigmas capitate. Capsules oblong-cylindric, 3-4 cm long (rarely formed).
