Description:
Shrub to 4 m; branches scandent, densely pubescent. Leaves ovate-oblong, to 20 x 10 cm, chartaceous; base rounded, margin finely glandular-toothed, apex acute, pubescent above, canescent below, nerves often reddish below; petiole to 9 cm. Corymbs terminal, to 30 cm, drooping; bracts foliaceous, ovate-acute, to 2 x 0.7 cm, glandular along margins; pedicel 1.5 cm. Hypanthium 6 cm long, dark red, broadening towards the mouth; lobes 4, lanceolate, 2 x 0.5 cm, reflexed. Petals 4, oblong, 1.5 x 0.5 cm, red. Stamens 8, hardly exserted; filaments alternately 1.3 and 1 cm. Ovary to 1.5 cm long, pubescent, 4-celled; ovules many, on axile placentae; style 7 cm, pubescent; stigma 4-lobed. Berry terete, 2 x 0.4 cm; stalk to 3 cm; seeds numerous.
