  Description: Evergreen suberect or climbing shrubs, 1.5-3 m high; branches terete, at nodes, sarmentose, lenticelled and warty. Leaves opposite, 4-8 x 3-5 cm, exstipulate, subcoriaceous, elliptic, obtuse at apex, subacute at base, glabrous on both surfaces, dark green and glaucous above, pale beneath; lateral nerves 10-12 pairs; petioles 1-1.5 cm long, compressed, glabrous. Flowers 6-7 cm long, whitish, tinged with light purple, showy, in few-flowered, terminal, dichotomous cymes; pedicels 1-1.5 cm long, stout, minutely pubescent, terete; bracts 6-12 x 2-3 mm, linear, acute, puberulent. Calyx 14-16 x 6-8 mm, divided nearly to base, ovate, acute at apex, margins recurved, glabrous within near base, otherwise puberulent. Corolla 6-8 cm across when fully open; tube up to 2 cm long, narrow below, subcampanulate at throat; lobes 4-4.5 x 1.5-1.7 cm, obliquely-oblong, acute, over lapping to the right, glabrous, somewhat fleshy. Corona coralline, near base of the throat, the lobes cleft in to 2, 1-1.2 cm long, filiform segments. Filaments short, free, not connate at base; anthers sagittate, adnate to the stigma, connective produced into acute processes, connivent over the stigma; pollen masses granular, translator subspathulate. Ovary glabrous, ovules many; style short, stout, glabrous, the apex dome-shaped. Follicles 8-12 x 3.5 cm, divaricate, woody, 3-angled, glabrous; seeds 6 x 2 mm long, ovate, glabrous; coma 2.5 cm long, silky-white.
