Description:
Tree-30 m high, buttressed; bark light grey, lenticellate in shallow longitudinal fissures; latex copious, white; vegetative branches wide-spreading with large leaves; flowering branches short, caducous, reaching 1-3 m long before abscission, small-leaved. Twigs, petioles, stipules and underside of the lamina villous with spreading, less often appressed, stiff, golden hairs 1-2 mm long, the upperside of the lamina thinly appressedly hairy. Lamina 20-57 x 1-25 cm on the long branches, oblong or oblong-obovate, acuminate, base cordate and often somewhat unequal, stiffly membranous to coriaceous, finely and closely ciliate-denticulate to subentire; lateral veins 16-22 pairs, 12 intercostals close and slightly raised below; basal veins 2-3 pairs, short; petiole 7-25 mm long, short and stout; stipules 3-6 cm long. Male heads usually bigeminate in groups of 4, turnip-shaped, compressed, conduplicate-flabellate, 20-37 mm wide; peduncle 2-15 mm long. Female heads smaller at anthesis than the males, subsessile. Syncarps 5-9 cm wide, 15-25 mm thick, orange-red, pulpy; seeds 8-10 x 6-7 mm; pale straw coloured.
