Description:
Annual herbs; culms decumbent, 80-150 cm long, nodes bearded; rooting at lower nodes. Leaves 10-15 cm x 8-12 mm, ovate-lanceolate, surface scabrous; rough on both sides; leaf-sheath ciliate; ligule a ciliolate membrane. Panicles 8-12 cm long, oblong; racems ca. 7 mm long bearing 2-3 fertile spikelets. Spikelets paired. Fertile spikelets sessile; 1 in a cluster; pedicels linear; 3 mm long; with a translucent median line ciliate. Male spikelets lanceolate; 3-4 mm long; as long as fertile. Sterile spikelet glumes 9 -veined; pubescent. Fertile spikelets oblong; dorsally compressed; 3-4 mm long. Glumes dissimilar, exceeding the apex of florets. Lower glume oblong, membranous, not keeled; 7 -veined. Lower glume concave, pubescent below. Upper glume lanceolate,1-keeled; 3 -veined. Basal sterile florets barren, without palea. Lemma of lower sterile floret oblong, hyaline, not veined. Fertile lemma linear; hyaline, without keel; 1 -veined, apex entire, acute, awned, awn geniculate; 14-16 mm long. Column of lemma awn glabrous. Palea 0 or minute. Stamens 3; anthers 1.8 mm long. Styles 2, free; stigma plumose.
