  Description: Perennial armed shrubs, up to 1 m high; stems terete or obscurely 4-angled; nodes bristled; thorns 2-4, axillary, up to 2 cm long. Leaves opposite, 6-14.5 x 2 -6 cm, ovate-elliptic, attenuate at base, acuminate at apex, glabrescent, pale beneath; midrib grooved above; lateral nerves 3-6 pairs; petioles 5-10 mm long. Floral leaves narrow and smaller, cuspidate at apex. Flowers solitary or crowded at axils of upper nodes, 6-6.5 cm long; bracts linear-lanceolate, 1-2.2 x 0.2-0.5 cm, cuspidate at apex, appressed white-pubescent. Outer sepals ovate-lanceolate, sub-equal, 1.5-2.5 x 0.5-0.8 cm, cuspidate at apex, glandular-pubescent inside, palmately nerved; inner sepals linear-lanceolate, as long as the outer, 3-4 mm across, acute at apex. Corolla blipped, yellow; tube ca 2 cm long, bent at base, hairy outside; lobes oblong or oblong-obovate, 2-3 x 1-1.5 cm, obtuse at apex. Fertile stamens 2, exserted; filaments 4.8-5.5 cm long, flat, hairy at base; anthers ca 4 mm long; sterile stamens 2, 1-2 mm long; filaments hairy; anthers ca 1 mm long, hairy; staminode absent. Ovary ovoid, 3-4 mm long, glabrous; style slender, 5.5-6.5 cm long; stigma ovate, ca 1 mm long, papillate. Capsules ovoid, 1.5-2 x 0.6-0.8 cm; seeds ovoid, 8.5-10.8 x 6.5-8 mm, subcordate at base, compressed on one side, with silky appressed hairs, copper-brown.
