Description:
Perennials. Culms 40-110 cm high, erect; nodes glabrous. Leaves 5-27 x 0.5-1.5 cm, linear-lanceolate or linear, base rounded or shallowly cordate, apex acuminate, tuberculate-pilose; sheaths to 12 cm long, tubercle-based hairy; ligules ovate, thin, membranous. Panicles 10-27 cm long, lax; branches to 8 cm long. Spikelets 3-4 mm long, elliptic-lanceolate. Lower glume 1.5-3 x 1-1.5 mm, ovate-acute, 3-nerved, nerves scaberulous. Upper glume 2-3 x 1-1.5 mm, ovate-lanceolate, 5-nerved. Lower floret male. Upper floret bisexual. First lemma 2-2.5 x 1-1.5 mm, ovate-oblong, 5-nerved. Palea 1.5-2 x 0.5-1 mm, oblong-elliptic, hyaline. Stamens 3. Second lemma 1-1.5 x 0.5-1 mm, oblong-elliptic, muricate. Palea c. 1 x 0.5 mm, oblong-lanceolate,delicate with wart-like out growths. Stamens 3; anthers pink. Stigmas 1-1.5 mm long, violet.
