Description:
Culms to 8 m; nodes swollen with ciliate rim below; internodes to 30 cm; culm-sheaths to 20 cm, striate, golden-brown ciliate above; imperfect blade subulate, to 3.5 cm, scabrid. Leaf-blades 10-18 x 1.5-2.5 cm, shortly petioled, long acuminate, glabrous above and glaucescent below, margins scabrid and incurved; leaf-sheaths keeled, often tubercled hairy with a row of cilia below petiole, and with 5-8 elongate, stiff bristles at the collar; ligule truncate, fimbriate, to 0.15 cm. Panicles terminal, dense, spreading; branchlets capillary, flexuous; axils glandular. Spikelets linear, to 1.5 cm, 3-5-flowered, uppermost floret usually sterile; rachilla capillary, thickened above. Glumes ovate-acute, 5-7-veined; lemma ovate, to 0.5 cm, scaberulous below, 9-11-veined, mucronate; palea-keels ciliate. Grain elliptic, to 0.5 cm.
