  Description: Large shrubs. Leaves 1-2 mm, to 9 x 2 cm, lanceolate, acute, margins thickened, serrate, coriaceous; sheath slightly keeled; ligules membranous. Panicles terminal, branchlets capillary; spikelets 1 cm, lanceolate, blackish-grey when dry, 2-5 flowered, glumes cartilaginous; lower glumes 4 mm, upper 5 mm.
