  Description: Perennials. Culms 50-120 cm high, erect, tufted; nodes glabrous. Leaves 10-34 x 0.2-0.5 cm, linear or linear-lanceolate, base rounded, apex acuminate, convolute, glaucous; sheaths to 8 cm long; ligules fimbriate membranes. Panicles 15-35 cm long, contracted, branches erect. Spikelets 1-1.8 cm long, linear-lanceolate or lanceolate. Lower glume 7-10 x 0.5-1 mm, lanceolate, aristate, 1-nerved; arista 2-4 mm long. Upper glume 8-12 x 0.5-1 mm, lanceolate, keeled, aristate, 1-nerved; arista 2-4 mm long. Lemma 8-12 x 1 mm, linear, convolute, 3-awned; awns 1-3 cm long. Palea small, hyaline. Stamens 3; anthers c. 3 mm long, yellow. Ovary to 2 mm long, linear; stigmas 3-4 mm long, pink.
