Description:
Annual herbs; culms 15-100 cm high, decumbent, canaliculate; nodes glabrous or tubercled hairy. Leaves 2-4.5 x 0.7-1.2 cm, oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate, rounded or cordate at base, margins ciliate with tubercle-based hairs, apex abruptly acute; sheath 5-12 cm long,covered with tubercle-based hairs; ligule truncate, fimbriate. Racemes 3-8, digitate, umbellate or corymbose, 4-15 cm long; rhachis angular, scabrid. Spikelets 2-flowered, 2-5 mm long excluding aristae, broadly elliptic. Glumes unequal; lower glume 1.5-2 x 1 mm, ovate-lanceolate, shortly acuminate, 3-nerved; upper glume 3-3.5 x 1 mm, broadly ovate, acuminae, 5-nerved; lower floret male. Upper floret bisexual. First lemma 2-3 x 1 mm, ovate, 5-nerved; second lemma 2-3 x 1 mm, elliptic, margins ciliate, aristate; arista 1-3 mm long, erect, scaberulous; palea 1.5-3 x 0.5-1 mm, ovate or elliptic. Stamens 3, anthers 0.5-1 mm long, yellow. Ovary c. 0.5 mm, oblong; stigmas 0.5-1 mm, violet; grain c. 1.5 x 1 mm, ovate.
