  Description: Erect herbs or undershrubs, 1-2 m tall; stems clothed with long deflexed hairs. Leaves plamately 3-7-lobed or parted, 7-20 x 6-20 cm, the lobes often narrowly linear, coarsely serrate-dentate, apex acuminate, upper leaves narrower, often hastate or sagittate, upper surface prominently simple hairy, lower surface with both stellate and simple hairs; petioles to 15 cm long; stipules linear to filiform. Flowers axillary, solitary; pedicels slender, to 5 cm long. Involucral bracts 7-9, c. 10 x 2 mm, linear hispid, caducous. Calyx 2 -3 cm long, c. 2.5 cm across, spathaceous, splitting at one side, shortly 3 -5-toothed at apex. Corolla 7-9 cm across, yellow with purple center; petals 5, c. 6 x 5 cm, obovate, margins entire. Staminal column c. 1.5 cm long; antheriferous throughout; filaments c. 5 mm long, anthers c. 5 mm long, yellow. Ovary c.7 mm long, ovoid; stylar branches 5; stigma purple, hairy. Capsules 6-8 cm long, oblong-lanceolate, strongly 5-angular, appressed hairy, blackish when ripe. Seeds c. 3.5 x 3 mm, reniform, concentrically ribbed, blackish.
